Cora is the central character in this gentle novel, which spans New Zealand, Scotland, Spain, and Germany. She has found peace and happiness in Aotearoa after leaving her Spanish birthplace years earlier.
But life has one final blow to deliver, which brings together her friend Irene, who she once trekked around the highlands of Scotland, and Sofia, her sister, trapped in a dull professional life in Madrid. Irene and Sofia embark on the trip of a lifetime, rediscovering who they are, and allowing them a second chance at life.
Cora is consistently torn between her native country and where she now lives, so this is a novel reveals the tension that immigrants go through as they struggle to find a place they can truly call home.
This novel has motherhood and friendship at its core, as the story goes back and forth in time and different countries. It’s a novel that will resonate with mothers, especially those who have experienced the challenges of being a single mum and somehow trying to balance life dreams with raising children.
A Trip Towards the Sunset is also a thoughtful story of grief, and love’s power to transform people’s lives, even after suffering loss.

Tatiana, you are a talented writer. You have three strong and layered women characters here, your writing is lyrical and emotionally perceptive and this novella makes for beautiful reading
You worked extremely hard on this scene, not just technically but in terms of pushing yourself emotionally, and I think you can see how this moved your writing up a level, giving it added depth and authenticity. Your characters were very well drawn, with believable dynamics, and you set them against the dusty memories of their childhood home very effectively. Well done.
